Workday Training Pathways: Managers

The Managers Workday Training Pathway is intended to support Managers by providing an overview of several processes, tasks, and actions associated with managing employees in Workday. To enroll in this Pathway on Workday Learning:

  1. Navigate to the Managers Training Pathway program.
  2. Select Enroll. 

Note: All prior completion of lessons and courses count toward requirements for completing this program, but you may re-access all completed training as desired.

Materials in this training pathway include the following Computer-Based Training (CBT) video series:

  • Workday Basics 102: Managers – overview of reports and apps for managers, as well as detail how to review and approve tasks and actions in Workday, and how to use advanced searching.
  • Time, Absence and Time Off Approvals for Managers – explains how to approve and correct submitted time, as well as to approve overtime and time off requests.
  • Performance Review Process for Managers – explains how to Complete Manager Evaluation and Complete Manager to Do.
  • Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and Disciplinary Action (DA) for Managers – explains how to start and complete a performance improvement plan and disciplinary action for an employee in Workday.
  • Termination – overview on Termination, learn how to process a resignation for an employee, understand how disciplinary actions can lead to termination, how to end a job for an employee with multiple jobs, and how to terminate an employee.

The training pathway program also includes step-by-step instructions of several commonly used processes via the following job aids:

  • Approving in Workday
    Explains the available actions an approver can take for a business process.
  • Canceling and Correcting Tasks
    Explains the definitions of the Correct and Cancel commands; when to use each option; and the process for completing the appropriate option.
  • Review, Edit/Correct, & Approve Time for Managers & Timekeepers
    Explains the process for Reviewing, Editing, Correcting, and Approving Time.
  • Creating Delegations for Workers
    Explains how HR Partners and Managers can delegate the tasks of a worker who is on leave and unable to create delegations for themselves.

    Explains the process of managing jobs in Workday (Add Job, End Job, Switch Primary Job).
  • Candidate Management
    Explains the process of Candidate Management in Workday, as well as useful candidate-related reports.
  • Hiring in Workday
    Explains how to hire employees, including for contracts, manage period activity pay, manage period activity pay assignments, how to propose compensation for the new hire, and common reports to use in hiring.
  • Job Requisition and Offer Letter Approval
    Explains the process of Job Requisition and Offer Letter Approval.

    Explains the process of Employee Onboarding in Workday.
  • Probation Period - Performance Review
    Explains the process of initiating and reviewing a Probation Period Performance Review for an employee.

    Explains the process for a manager of initiating and completing a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) for an employee.
  • Disciplinary Action for Managers
